The Liberia National Red Cross Society joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day with a resounding call for increased support for pregnant women, baby mothers, abandoned single mothers, and all vulnerable women striving to make a difference across the country.
This year’s worldwide theme, “Give to Gain,” is echoed nationally as “Give to Gain, Support Women for National Development.” In alignment with this vision, the Liberian Red Cross has adopted the slogan: “Support Vulnerable Women — Safeguard their Dignity, Sustain the Future of Humanity.”
The Manager for Human Resources and Administration, Madam Albertha D. Cummings, underscored the importance of giving support to vulnerable women to safeguard their dignity, and sustain the future of humanity.

Madam Cummings emphasized that when support is given to women, society gains their strength, courage, and ability to transform communities. She further noted that the world is watching to see who will be the first to give hope, dignity, and support to women who are vulnerable yet determined to rise.
The Liberian Red Cross recognizes that women and children are often the most affected during disasters. Yet, women remain on the frontline—serving, caring, and lifting others in their time of need. Across Liberia, Red Cross women volunteers and staff are prepared, committed, and ready to act and stand with those who feel forgotten.
As part of the official national program organized by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the Liberia National Red Cross Society is participating in a parade and indoor program to honor women and reaffirm its commitment to humanitarian action.

March 8 of every year is celebrated as International Women’s Day around the world in recognition of the struggles women have faced to gain equality and equal rights. It is also a time to reflect on progress made, call for change, and celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played extraordinary roles in the history of their countries and communities.
