When was the last time you had your blood pressure checked? Do you know what your blood pressure numbers mean or how blood pressure affects your health? Well, recently, we conducted a free blood pressure check for ninety-eight students at the William V. S. Tubman High School during the celebration of our May Month anniversary celebration.
High blood pressure usually develops over time because of unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as not getting enough regular physical activity. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, can also increase the risk of developing high blood pressure.
At the school, we set up a health post where our health team provided free blood pressure monitoring to students and invited guests. The health check was done voluntarily for individuals who requested it. High blood pressure has been one of the major silent killers in the world. Usually, we conduct free high blood pressure tests to make individuals know their status in order to visit health centers for treatment.

The ages of the ninety-eight individuals whose blood pressure we monitored, ranged from 23 – 76yrs. Forty -six persons were males, while fifty-two persons were females.
Among those who received the service, sixteen persons including twelve males and four females were at high risk with increased blood pressure between 160/100 to 190/110. Those at high risk were advised to seek further medical care at a hospital.
