Awareness drive on Restoring Family Links services coincides with the International Day of the Disappeared
As the world commemorates the International Day of the Disappeared, August 30, the Liberia National Red Cross Society has called on everyone to stand in solidarity with families who continue to endure the pain and uncertainty of not knowing the fate or whereabouts of their loved ones.
By the end of 2025, the Restoring Family Links Network of the Red Cross Movement had registered more than half a million missing persons from over 130 conflicts worldwide. These crises tear families apart, leaving countless individuals unaccounted for and families in anguish.
In a Press Release issued on Sunday, the Red Cross described the issue of missing persons as one of the most profound humanitarian consequences of armed conflict, violence, disasters, and migration, presenting emotional, economic, legal, administrative, and social challenges to families and communities in ways that are often difficult to express.
As part of its effort to help reconnect families, the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) said it has launched a nationwide awareness campaign on Restoring Family Links (RFL) services, a humanitarian program supported by the ICRC that helps families separated by conflict, migration, disaster, or detention to reconnect, exchange family news, and regain hope.

As part of the campaign, the Red Cross is conducting 30 live radio discussions through local radio stations; broadcasting 690 awareness jingles; engaging key stakeholders on humanitarian and migration-related issues; and conducting community outreach activities to raise awareness about RFL services and encourage families and communities to share information about the services and help to ensure that no family is left without hope.
The Secretary General/CEO of the Liberia National Red Cross Society Gregory T. Blamoh said : “Addressing the humanitarian consequences of migration and family separation requires collective action. As the Red Cross, we are committed to working closely with government institutions, humanitarian partners, communities, and other stakeholders to strengthen protection, ensure timely support, and help reconnect families separated by crisis.”
The Secretary General/CEO for the Liberian Red Cross added that “No single institution can address the complex humanitarian needs associated with migration and missing persons alone”. He said through stronger collaboration and coordinated action with stakeholders, the RedCross can ensure that vulnerable people are better protected, families receive the support they need, and those searching for their loved ones are not left without hope.
The International Day of the Disappeared is dedicated to honoring the millions of people who are missing as a result of armed conflict, violence, disasters, and migration.
