Bentol City, Liberia – November 12, 2025

The Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS), through its Youth and Volunteer Development Commission in collaboration with theYayeh Initiative, has reached out to support over 70 school children in Bentol City with essential school supplies, reaffirming its commitment to nurturing the next generation of humanitarian leaders.

Students from Youth Camp Public School, Gbokolleh Elementary Public School, and ElderJohn T.T. Gayflor Daycare School were among the beneficiaries of the intervention, receiving book bags, copybooks, pencils, and shoes. The gesture, though modest, sent a powerful message of compassion, hope, and solidarity at a time when many children continue to face barriers to education due to economic hardship.

Speaking during the outreach, the National Youth Representative and Chairperson of the LNRCS Youth and Volunteer Development Commission, Ms. Grace Weah, described the initiative as a demonstration of the Red Cross’s firm belief that humanitarian leadership begins with compassion in action.

“Every act of kindness plants a seed for a better society,” Ms. Weah said. “By supporting children today, we are investing in the future — in leaders who will carry forward the spirit of humanity, service, and solidarity. The Red Cross is committed to preparing the next generation of humanitarian leaders who will continue to make a positive impact in their schools, communities, and the nation.”

She emphasized that education is a fundamental right and that supporting school children aligns with the Red Cross’s broader mission to promote Humanitarian Values and Principles, Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI), and community resilience.

The Chairperson of the LNRCS Youth and Volunteer Development Commission also highlighted the importance of empowering children through education and humanitarian engagement. “Our goal is to ensure that no child is left behind,” Ms. Weah noted. “When we provide school materials and motivation, we’re not only addressing immediate needs — we’re helping children to believe in their potential. This is how we build strong, compassionate, and responsible future leaders.”

The partnership was further strengthened by the involvement of the Yayeh Initiative, a youth-led organization committed to promoting education, empowerment, and community development. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Yayehsorie Jalloh, Executive Director of the Yayeh Initiative Inc, praised the collaboration with the Red Cross as a model of effective partnership for social change.

“Working with the Red Cross demonstrates the power of collaboration for humanity,” Amb. Jalloh said. “Together, we are not only reaching schools but changing lives. This partnership reflects our shared vision of giving every child a fair opportunity to learn, dream, and succeed.”

Amb. Jalloh further noted that the Yayeh Initiative Inc. remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable communities and looks forward to more joint interventions with the Liberian Red Cross. “Education is the foundation of development,” she added. “When we equip children with the tools they need to stay in school, we are investing in the human capital that will drive our nation forward. We are proud to walk alongside the Liberian Red Cross in promoting compassion, service, and leadership among Liberia’s youth.”

School administrators expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Mrs. Maryann Z.T. Mboma, Principal of Elder John T.T. Glayflor Memorial Sanctuary of Praise Academy, thanked the Red Cross and its partners for their continued commitment to education.

“This support has lifted a burden off many parents who struggle to provide basic school materials,” Madam Mboma said. “Our students are encouraged and motivated to stay in school and study harder. We appreciate the Red Cross for being a true partner to education and humanity.”

The LNRCS has established school clubs across several counties, promotinghealth and hygiene education, humanitarian values, protection, gender and inclusion awareness, andyouth leadership development. These clubs serve as a platform for young people to learn, lead, and live by the principles of humanity, impartiality, and service.

As the Red Cross continues to extend its reach, it remains steadfast in its mission to build resilient communities through the power of youth, volunteerism, and humanity in action.
