In preparation for the upcoming general and presidential elections in Liberia, law enforcement officers from various security institutions have completed a comprehensive Basic First Aid training program. The training, attended by the Liberia National Police, Armed Forces of Liberia, Liberia Immigration Service, Liberia Fire and Rescue Service, and Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, was organized by the Liberia National Red Cross Society to equip law enforcement officers with essential life-saving skills and increase their confidence in responding to emergencies.

The First Aid training started on May 30 at the Police Training Academy in Paynesville and extended to Grand Bassa, Margibi, Bong, and Nimba Counties. Through the initiative, officers were educated on crucial first aid techniques such as placing victims in a recovery position, controlling bleeding, handling fractures, addressing wounds and shock, and ensuring the safe transportation of victims during emergencies.
The significance of this First Aid training goes beyond providing knowledge and response kits; it instills new skills and empowers law enforcement officials to act swiftly and effectively in preventing or managing life-threatening situations. By enabling these officers to offer immediate assistance until medical professionals can arrive on the scene, the training aims to save lives and contribute to a safer environment during the electoral period.

The Secretary-General of the Liberia National Red Cross Society, Mr. Gregory Blamoh, expressed the organization’s mission to empower law enforcement heroes not only to maintain law and order but also to provide life-saving aid in emergencies.
During the launch of the training at the Police Training Academy, Mr. Blamoh emphasized the importance of collaboration and commended the coordination among the security institutions. He acknowledged the significant contribution made by the authorities and expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for their invaluable support in facilitating the training.
“We want to empower our law enforcement heroes to be ready not only to restore law and order but to offer lifesaving assistance to those affected in any emergency to keep them alive until medical help can arrive on the ground”, Our Secretary-General spoke when we started our basic first aid training at the Police Training Academy with 50 law enforcement officers from the AFL, Police, Immigration and Fire Service.
“Let’s build a safer future together”, Mr. Gregory Blamoh pointed out while thanking authorities of the security institutions for the coordination and collaboration. “Together, we’re making a difference and ensuring a safer environment for everyone during the upcoming elections” he added.

The completion of the Basic First Aid training for 150 law enforcement officers signifies a significant step toward enhancing emergency response capabilities and strengthening public safety in Liberia. With the acquired skills and increased confidence, these officers are better equipped to address emergencies effectively and minimize the potential loss of life. Through their commitment and dedication, these law enforcement heroes are poised to play a vital role in securing a safer future for all citizens during the upcoming elections.
