In a bold effort to reinforce its local presence and empower frontline responders, the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has successfully concluded a joint field monitoring mission to Sinoe, Grand Kru, River Gee, and Maryland Counties. The mission, spearheaded by LNRCS top management, brought together a diverse team from Programs, Logistics, Finance, Communications, Human Resources, and Administration.
“This mission was not just about oversight — it was about presence, support, and impact,” said Christopher Johnson, the LNRCS Head of Programs. “Our objective was to ensure our teams on the ground feel supported, are properly equipped, and can function with greater efficiency and accountability. When we invest in our local chapters, we invest in stronger, more resilient communities.”
Over the course of the mission, the joint team provided hands-on support and coaching to local staff and volunteers. In programs, the focus was on community-based services, adaptation of innovative solutions, and improving responsiveness to vulnerabilities. Finance officers were coached on proper documentation practices to enhance transparency and accountability.
“We appreciated the spot coaching on financial reporting and documentation,” said Otis George, Field Officer in Sinoe. “It’s important for us to maintain credibility and show that the Red Cross is accountable to the people we serve.”
The Communications team guided chapters in accessing digital platforms, improving visibility, and showcasing their work, especially through youth-led community actions. HR and Admin emphasized workplace safety, staff insurance, adherence to the code of conduct, and staff productivity.

“We feel renewed,” said George Gray, Field Officer in Grand Kru. “The team’s visit reminded us that we are not alone. Their support energized us and gave us practical tools to be more effective.”
Logistical capacity, infrastructure development, and emergency readiness were also reviewed. Several immediate actions were taken, and key recommendations were submitted to LNRCS leadership, focusing on improved facilities, sustained capacity building, and innovation in programming.
“This mission was about standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our field teams,” Johnson emphasized. “That’s how we ensure relevance, trust, and impact in the communities we serve.”
