Liberian Red Cross responds to tragic fire accident

October 17, 2019

TRAGIC FIRE: We arrived on the scene sooner this morning and remain engaged in supporting national response efforts to the fire disaster at a boarding school in Paynesville near Monrovia. The scene was terrible and emotional as many families lost their children during the outbreak. The children were asleep at the school dormitory when the fire broke out and the bodies of children all boys between the ages of 10 to 20 were recovered from the debris of the fire and four persons reportedly rescued. We are deeply saddened by the loss the bereaved families have encountered. And may the souls of the deceased be at peace.
