LNRCS PARTNERS WITH WESTERN CLUSTER LIMITED TO ENHANCE COMMUNITY WELL-BEING

April 11, 2024

In a bid to fortify community welfare within concession areas, the Liberia National Red Cross Society (LNRCS) has forged a strategic alliance with Western Cluster Limited (WCL) to execute its vital Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in Bomi County.

The LNRCS and WCL for the first time signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in March 2023, for the implementation of a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project worth over $14,300 USD. The Red Cross successfully implemented the project with the construction of three new handpumps and the rehabilitation of three damaged ones across communities including Zalakai, Borbor, and Bola Towns, where WCL conducts its mineral mining operations. The project was not only executed with quality work but with timeliness, transparency and accountability.

Building upon the previous achievements, the LNRCS has again signed a short-term Letter of Award (LoA) to implement another project exceeding $23,500 USD. The newest project that is awarded to the Red Cross as a result of ‘trust and confidence’ encompasses the construction of two flush latrines, two water towers in Tubmanbury, a daycare school in Zalakai Towns and two new handpumps in TK Town.

These project activities are part of the Western Cluster Limited Cooperate Social Responsibility to the communities and the Liberian Red Cross was selected among several applicants in line with the Western Cluster Limited Cooperate Social Responsibility Agreement with the government in establishing local partners to promote local participation.

The LNRCS Secretary General Gregory T. Blamoh has expressed profound appreciation for WCL’s confidence in the Red Cross’ capabilities, stating, “We are grateful to the management of Western Cluster Limited for entrusting us with the responsibility to execute these crucial CSR projects. This partnership underscores our commitment to addressing local needs and promoting community well-being within concession areas.”

Emphasizing the importance of local empowerment, Mr. Blamoh highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “This partnership serves as a commendable example of local empowerment, wherein the LNRCS is entrusted to champion initiatives that directly impact the lives of individuals in our communities.”

The Liberian Red Cross is moment optimistic towards future endeavors, anticipating the formalization of a long-term partnership agreement to further advance CSR project activities across various sectors. The LNRCS and WCL stand united in their resolve to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve.
